Longhorn Steakhouse And How It Came To Be

Longhorn Steakhouse And How It Came To Be

When it comes to American cuisine, nothing will top a perfectly cooked steak. Steak is one of the dishes that Americans can be proud of as they have truly owned it and cooked it in a way that only they can. The quest for the perfect steak has brought a lot of people too many places already but to George McKerrow Jr., why find the perfect steak if you can try to create it. That is the concept he followed as he went on to establish LongHorn Steakhouse.

LongHorn Steakhouse is a dining steakhouse chain. With its hand cut, and hand-seasoned steaks, LongHorn clawed its way up to the ranks to become one of the finest steakhouse out there.

But that was not the case when it first started.

The Story

With its creation in 1981, the first few months of LongHorn Steakhouse was not really as you would imagine how a restaurant as successful as it would go. Founded by George McKerrow Jr. driven by his passion for cooking steak, LongHorn Steakhouse’s first few months in Peachtree Street Atlanta were not very successful. Customers were not really coming in due to its location.

That all changed when a 1982 snowstorm ravaged the area and caused a lot of people to get stranded and scour for a place to shelter and LongHorn was there at the right place and right time. LongHorn would see their restaurant get filled by these people and as soon as the storm passed, their first full house would leave with word of recommendation in their mouths. Word of mouth quickly spread and in no time LongHorn Steakhouse, called LongHorn Steaks Restaurant & Saloon back then, would be rising up.

Fast forward to today; LongHorn has now over 435 location in different states and internationally with establishments in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.

The Menu

Staying true to its purpose and more, the LongHorn Steakhouse menu would feature dishes like Parmesan Crusted Chicken, LongHorn Salmon, and of course their Steaks.

Flo’s Filet is the pride of LongHorn Steakhouse; a buttery, lean, and center-cut beef that can be availed at 6 or 8 oz for Lunch pricing at $17.49 and $22.49 respectively. For dinner, Flo’s Filet 6 oz is at $19.49 while the 8 oz steak is $23.49.

Other than Flo’s Filet, they also have their Flo’s Filet Lobster Tail as their version of the Surf and Turf, while other steaks such as the Renegade Sirloin and their Sirloin are worth getting also.
